This impressively generous 6 litre bottle of The Chocolate Block Red Wine, Boekenhoutskloof contains the equivalent of 8 standard size bottles or 4 magnums. The Chocolate Block Red Wine has an exceptional perfume, bringing together complex aromas of red and dark berries, violets and intense white pepper. The dark fruit persists on the rich, textured palate alongside spicy notes of cardamom, clove and black pepper. A balanced structure with integrated acidity and powdery tannins. 16 months are spent ageing in French oak barrels that lends itself to a distinct cedarwood character. The finish is smooth and lifted.
The wine acquired its name from a story, that the flavours experienced when the wine was first created, led people to believe it had been made with chocolate. The winemakers asserted that this was simply a result of the terroir and the blend of grapes. The original vineyard which created this outstanding blend has since sadly been bought and turned into a car park. Boekenhoutskloof nonetheless have recreated their original recipe and it remains as highly acclaimed as ever. |
