Stauning El Clasico has a nose filled with the scent of apples, oranges, ripe plum, warm spices, cinnamon and roasted caramel. On first taste, the lips are met with a sweet and piercing kiss of dried fruits, citrus and crushed pepper. The warm aftertaste has bittersweet notes of vermouth that stay on the tongue for a prolonged time.
Stauning El Clasico is an aged rye whisky that has been finished in vermouth casks. Rye whisky and sweet vermouth have always had a strong relationship in the iconic Manhattan cocktail. The aim has been to capture the cocktail magic in this rye whisky.
This is the third release in the Stauning experimental series. This heart warming whisky has a deep, amber colour and a sweet aftertaste, with touches of bitter botanicals. Perfect both in cocktails or enjoyed neat.
Throughout history, wormwood has often been associated with evil and misfortune. Wormwood is known for a tasty bitterness and for medicinal properties - in the right amounts of course! Hence the demon on the bottle - it is half bull, half demon, designed by tatoo artist Thit Hansgaard.
The whisky is matured in Virgin American Oak and then finished in Spanish Vermouth casks. It's double-distilled in small, open-fired pot stills. Being unfiltered and not chill-filtered, means some natural residue may appear in the bottle. It's 100% handmade at the distillery exclusively using local ingredients.
