Gelston's Old Irish whiskey was founded in Belfast in 1830 by Samuel Gelston. A very successful wine and whiskey merchant. In 1869, upon Samuel's death, the business was bought by Harry Neill. Harry, was passionate about whiskey and had left Belfast a few years earlier to make his fortune in the Australian Gold rush of 1851. In Australia, he had been the sole importer for Dunville's Irish whiskey, the largest Belfast brand at the time. Harry went on to expand the Gelston's business significantly up until his death in 1891. Five generations on, Gelston's remains in the hands of the Neill family who continue to develop, select and blend the highest quality whiskeys. |
