Red Spot Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is crafted from an old recipe handed down by the Mitchell & Son family of wine merchants. The records date back to early 1900's. This reimagined Red Spot is a triple-distilled, single pot still Irish whiskey, matured for a minimum of 15 years in a combination of pre-seasoned bourbon, Oloroso sherry and Marsala fortified wine casks.
This highly-anticipated release deliver a full-bodied, complex and characterful whiskey.
Nose: Spices with rich cooked fruit, baked apple, mango and black cherry. Hazelnut and a hint of new leather intermingle with toasted American oak.
Taste: A malange of ripe sweet fruit flavours is provided by the Marsala seasoned wine casks. As the fruit notes linger, sweet red pepper and cracked black pepper and some spiciness develops, with notes of American oak and barley at the end.
Finish: An extra long finish infused with fruit and spices.
The Red Spot name originates from the Mitchell family's historic practice of marking casks of different ages with a spot of coloured paint. There was a Blue Spot, Green Spot, Yellow Spot, and of course the Red Spot. As its colourful history would have it, this revered Red Spot has remained in the hidden depths of a legend until recently.
