Monte Alban Mezcal is named after one of the oldest Mesoamerican cities in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Monte Alban became the first mezcal to be exported in 1975. The worm added to each bottle lives in the agave plants which are distilled to create mezcal. Legends tell that anyone brave enough to eat it will be imbued with strength, though many believe it to act as an aphrodisiac.
Monte Alban Mezcal is the authentic Mexican spirit with the worm in the bottle. Mezcal is Tequilas 'big brother' - almost 500 years ago, Spanish conquistadors looking for a rum substitute began distilling an Aztec soft drink made from the agave plant. They ended up with a premium spirit called Mezcal. Much later, a similar drink was distilled in the Tequila region, made from a different species of agave. Mezcal is ofcourse the original and best! |
