Old Fashioned
Ingredients:
Place the sugar cube in the glass and soak the sugar with the aromatic bitters. Add a splash of soda water (to cover the sugar cube). Crush the cube with the back of a bar spoon. Then add the bourbon whiskey and STIR. Garnish with an orange slice, a Maraschino cherry and a lemon zest twist.
Colonel James E. Pepper, a Kentucky-based distiller of bourbon, and the bartender of the Pendennis Club, Louiseville, are jointly recognised as the creators of this cocktail around 1900. The old-fashioned is a cocktail with a song in its honour, "Make it Another Old-Fashioned, Please" by Cole Porter. As the name it also associated with a glass type, the name "old-fashioned" is never far away from someone's lips.
