20ml Volare Apricot Brandy Liqueur
20ml Calvados Boulard Grande Solage Pays D'Auge

Golden Dawn is a classic cocktail that harmoniously blends the rich flavors of apple brandy, apricot brandy, gin, and orange juice, creating a vibrant and refreshing drink. This elegant beverage, with its origins dating back to the early 20th century, offers a delightful balance of fruitiness and botanical notes.

Preparation:

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
  2. Add 25ml each of apple brandy, apricot brandy, gin, and fresh orange juice.
  3. Shake vigorously until well-chilled.
  4. Strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass.
  5. Add a dash of grenadine, allowing it to settle at the bottom for a layered effect.
  6. Garnish with a cocktail cherry for an added touch of elegance.

Background:

This pre-dinner cocktail won the International Cocktail Competition in London in 1930. Nine years later, Walter A. Madigan made a Golden Dawn without the Calvados and was runner-up at the International Cocktail Championship of the World in London in 1939. He should have stuck to the original recipe!
