Americano

Americano

Ingredients:
50ml Aperol
50ml Antica Formula Carpano Vermouth
100ml Soda Water
The Americano cocktail is a classic Italian aperitif that offers a refreshing and bittersweet flavour profile, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a light yet flavourful drink. This cocktail combines the boldness of Campari (or Aperol) with the sweetness of sweet vermouth, topped with a splash of soda water for effervescence.

Method:
  1. Fill a highball glass with ice cubes to chill it.
  2. Pour 50ml of Campari (or Aperol) and 50ml of sweet vermouth over the ice in the glass.
  3. Top up the mixture with soda water to your preference, typically around 100ml.
  4. Stir gently to combine, then garnish with a slice of orange for an added citrus aroma.

The Americano cocktail's origins date back to the 1860s in Italy, where it was initially known as the "Milano-Torino" due to its ingredients: Campari from Milan and sweet vermouth from Turin. The addition of soda water made it popular among American tourists, leading to its current name. This cocktail is not only a delightful pre-dinner drink but also holds a place in popular culture, being the first drink ordered by James Bond in Ian Fleming's "Casino Royale."
