The story of Goslings dates back to 1806, when James Gosling set sail from England with £10,000 of merchandise and found himself 91 days later in Bermuda where he would set up shop. In 1860, barrels of rum began arriving in Bermuda and the Goslings began experimenting with blending their own rum and offering it for sale in the shop.
The "Black Seal" name didn't catch on until the First World War when they began selling it in old champagne bottles and sealing it with black wax. People soon began asking for "the black seal". Gosling's Rum is still widely enjoyed and highly awarded today as the company embarks on its third century in the careful hands of the seventh generation of the Gosling family. |
