De Bortoli Old Boys Barrel Aged 21 Year Tawny has a classic tawny brown colour. On the nose, there are a range of aromas present with dark raisined fruits, mocha, hints of vanilla and touches of nutty aged barrel characteristics. A swirl on the palate reveals lusciousness and hints of mocha and coffee. The flavours resulting from barrel aging create a harmonious, smooth and lingering dry finish.
In making De Bortoli Old Boys Barrel Aged 21 Year Tawny, the fruit is kept on the vine until very sweet and intense. After crushing the grapes, they are then partially fermented to retain some sweetness. The wine is pressed and then fortified with a neutral spirit prior to maturation in small and large format oak casks.
Tawnys are created as a traditional after-dinner drink that can be savoured with a platter of cheeses, rich fruit or chocolate dessert.
