Croft was founded in 1588 by Henry Thompson, who set up a successful wine trading business in the city of York. Seeing success and trade with Portugal, Henry's descendant Richard Thompson was responsible for moving the business to Portugal and transforming the business to a Port wine company.
Croft is one of the most distinguished of all Port houses; it is the oldest house still active today as a Port wine producer. The company is renowned above all for its Vintage Ports as well as for its range of wood aged reserves and tawnies. But in spite of its rich heritage and century-spanning history, Croft has never been limiteded by tradition. Today, it maintains a pioneering spirit, creating innovative new styles such as Croft Pink, the first ever rosé Port. |
