These champagnes are made exclusively from the blacks grapes Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. It could be one or the other, or a blend of the two. Though made from black grapes these champagnes are white, as juice is only taken from the fleshy part of the grapes, through gentle pressing. The fleshy part of black grapes produces a colourless juice. Such champagnes are often, fuller, rounder, softer in the mouth and weighter than Blanc de Blancs, the Chardonnay-based champagne.
