With a beautiful red cherry colour with high intensity, the wine still shows some slight purplish traces, and results enormously seductive in the nose, offering a massive display of black ripe fruits and traces of roasted coffee and cream that evolve towards more spicy tones. In the mouth, its great presence and volume remind us of its Mediterranean soul, with round soft tannins that give way to a long and balanced finish, with plenty of fruit and delicate toasted traces. The wine was aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels and stayed for further 6 months in 10.000 litre French oak 'foudres', ideal to enhance the fruit characteristics of the wine. This wine was bottled avoiding filtering or stabilizations, which may result in the appearance of natural sediments in the bottle.
Background: Finca Monasterio is made from grapes exclusively coming from the vineyards around our XVI century Benedictine monastery in Mendavia (Rioja Baja). Planted in 1985, this vineyard has already got to its optimum age for top quality productions, furthermore bearing in mind our demanding viticultural practices, involving canopy management, restrictive prunnings and drastic green harvesting to reduce the yields. |
