Balvenie French Oak is a 16 year old single malt from Balvenie's Cask Finishes range. It was initially matured in American oak casks, before being finished in casks that previously held wine from the French Charentes vineyards. Pineau des Charentes is a fortified wine, made from unfermented grape juice, to which a Cognac eau-de-vie is added and then the spirit is matured.
Balvenie French Oak has a beautiful balance with light floral notes of lotus and geranium flowers. These intermingle with hints of fresh meadow grass and apple skin peels. On the palate, there's an energizing tang of lemon rind flavours, together with grapefruit, with delicate subtle sweetness of glazed fruits and root ginger spice. The finish notably refreshing. |
